Mexico Open highlights: Brian Campbell beats Aldrich Potgieter on second playoff hole
- Aldrich Potgieter leads the 2025 Mexico Open by one stroke heading into the final round.
- A win on Sunday would make Potgieter, 20, the sixth-youngest PGA Tour winner since 1983.
- Brian Campbell sits one shot back at 19 under, while Stephan Jaeger is three strokes off the lead.
What a moment for Brian Campbell.
Standing on the 18th tee, he watched helplessly as his ball sailed toward out of bounds right of the fairway. Then his ball struck a tree, bounced a cart path and came back into the fairway. About 10 minutes later, he was knocking in a birdie putt for victory.
Campbell beats Potgieter on the second playoff hole to win the 2025 Mexico Open at VidantaWorld for his first PGA Tour victory. He managed only a 1-under 70 in the final round, but he's now a winner on Tour and will be in the field in two months at the Masters.
Here's a look at the highlights and best moments from the final round of the Mexico Open.

Second playoff hole
Potgieter finds the fairway again, further right but on the short grass. Campbell's tee shot was going out of bounds but gets saved by a tree and gets back into play. What a lucky bounce. He has 311 to the hole.
Considering the tee shot, Campbell lays up in the fairway and has 68 yards to the hole. Potgieter hits a big draw that Jim "Bones" Mackay loves in the air but comes up short in the greenside bunker.
Campbell's third is a BEAUTY. He hits it to a couple feet, almost guaranteeing a birdie. What a turnaround from his tee shot. Potgieter from the bunker runs out a bit past the hole, and he'll have a bit longer for birdie.
Advantage Campbell on the birdie putts, as his is uphill.
Potgieter hits first, and he misses. Didn't break right, and he runs it well past. Campbell now has just over 3 feet to win. And he makes it.
First playoff hole
Potgieter hits 194 mph ball speed off the tee and finds the right side of the fairway. Campbell then hits a draw that runs into the first cut but avoids the rough and bunker. Campbell has 244 to the back-right pin while Potgieter has 224.
Campbell's approach lands into the upslope of the greenside bunker. Potgieter, meanwhile, hits a massive pull hook long and left of the green. Not sure who has the advantage after those two shots.
Potgieter's third lands on the green but leaves himself with a tricky birdie putt from 19 feet. Campbell from the bunker then splashes it out to inside of Potgieter, but he also had 13 feet for birdie.
Potgieter hits his attempt first, good speed but is left just below the hole. A tap-in par.
Campbell next, and same result. Back to the tee.
Brian Campbell, Aldrich Potgieter heading to playoff
Campbell and Potgieter birdie their final hole and are in the clubhouse at 20 under. We're going to a playoff.
Isaiah Salinda gets into clubhouse at 19 under
There's a leader in the clubhouse. Isaiah Salinda birdied the 72nd hole and is in at 19 under, which is tied for the lead. If Campbell or Potgieter want to avoid a playoff (with Salinda, at least), they need to get to 20 under.
Tied with two to go
Brian Campbell makes bogey on 16, and Potgieter gets a par. The duo are tied at 19 under with two holes to go. Aaron Rai and Isaiah Salinda are a shot back and tied for third.
Mishap for Aldrich Potgieter
Trouble for Aldrich at 15, when he drives it in the right rough then misses the green short and right. His chip shot doesn't get up the slope and rolls back down near his feet. A chip and putt later, it was a bogey and now trails Brian Campbell by a shot.
Tied at the top
It has been a shaky final round from Aldrich Potgieter and Brian Campbell, but they're tied for the lead with four holes to play after Potgieter's birdie on the par-5 14th.
Brian Campbell retakes solo lead
With five holes to play, Brian Campbell has the solo lead. He poured in a 12 footer on the par-3 13th to move to 20 under, and he's one ahead of Potgieter and Rai.
Aldrich Potgieter gets back into lead
Potgieter's short game in the final round had been sketchy, but he hit a brilliant pitch shot on the par-5 12th to get a birdie and tie Rai and Campbell for the lead at 19 under.
Aaron Rai ties lead
Aaron Rai won the Wyndham Championship last summer for his first PGA Tour win, and he's in position for his second victory this week. His latest birdie on the par-3 11th tied Brian Campbell for the lead, and he's at 19 under.
Brian Campbell takes solo lead to back nine
Who wants to win the Mexico Open? It's open for the taking. Brian Campbell is the solo leader at 19 under at the turn, and Aldrich Potgieter is one back after another bogey on the par-3 ninth. He's tied for second a shot back with Aaron Rai.
Final group struggling
There has been no momentum for the final group Sunday. Co-leaders Potgieter and Campbell both made bogeys on the par-4 eighth after making birdies on 7. Rai is now a shot back at 18 under with Potgieter and Campbell sitting at 19 under.
Brian Campbell to the front at Mexico Open
After consecutive birdies on Nos. 6-7, Brian Campbell is tied for the lead in Mexico. He's at 20 under, tied with Potgieter, who birdied the 7th to get back to 20 under where he started the day.
Aaron Rai ties lead
What a start for Aaron Rai. He eagles the par-5 sixth, the first big bird on the hole Sunday, and he's tied at the top with Potgieter. Rai is 5 under thru six holes.
Eagle lands for Joel Dahmen
The seventh at Vidanta Vallarta is a short par-4 that allows every player to take a shot at driving the green. Joel Dahmen did just that, and it led to an eagle.
Shaky start for final group
It has been a less-than-stellar start for the leaders. Potgieter's lead is back to one after a bogey at the par-4 third, and he was unable to convert on a lengthy par putt for the second hole in a row. He's at 19 under and one shot ahead of Campbell. The duo and Jaeger are all 1 over through 3 holes.
Aldrich Potgieter makes clutch par save on 2
Potgieter found the fairway bunker off the tee, and his approach shot barely cleared the lip, but he found the green. Then his first putt left plenty of meat on the bone, leaving 7 feet for par. But he poured it in to keep a two-shot lead, and those are the putts that can be the difference between winning and losing.
Leaders underway at Mexico Open
The final group is underway, and Potgieter's lead has grown. He made a comfy par, but Stephan Jaeger was in trouble off the tee and it resulted in a bogey, then Brian Campbell missed a 4 footer for par to also make bogey and drops to two shots back.
The youngster looks cool, calm and collected early, but we'll see whether that continues.
