Masters live leaderboard updates: Rory McIlroy beats Justin Rose, wins career grand slam

Updated April 13, 2025, 8:15 p.m. ET

The final round of the 2025 Masters has been insanity.

And it's even crazier: playoff time. Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy missed a 5-foot par putt on the 18th hole that would've won him the tournament. Instead, he has to go back to the 18th tee to try and beat Rose in a playoff.

Rose shot 6-under 66 in the final round to finish at 11 under and get into a playoff.

in the playoff, Rory McIlroy made birdie to beat Rose and win his fifth major title and the grand slam.

Masters 2025 live leaderboard

T1. Rory McIlroy: -11 (F)

T1. Justin Rose: -11 (F)

Playoff hole 1

Justin hits first and it's a beautiful cut up that hangs on to the right side of the fairway. Rory also pounds driver and is in a similar spot to regulation. Justin has 156 yards to the pin and Rory 125.

Justin almost dunks his approach but it rolls out to a little more than 10 feet. It'll be a downhill putt. Rory next. And he hits it into the slope and it rolls back to a couple feet. That should be a putt Rory can make, but Rose will putt first from 15 feet. Rory is 4 feet away.

Rose putts first. He misses, the ball never broke left. Door is open for Rory to win.

Rory McIlroy makes it. He has won the grand slam!

Rory on 18 to win

Piped drive up the left center. Only 124 to the green.

On no, oh no. Rory hits it into the greenside bunker on 18. He holed out from it in 2022. Now, he has to get up and down to win.

Good shot from the bunker, rolls out to about 4 feet. That for the green jacket.

He missed it. We're going to a playoff. Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy for the green jacket.

Rory throws dart to 2 feet, leads by 1 heading to 18

Another incredible approach shot from Rory McIlroy. He hits it to 2 feet on 17 and converts the birdie putt. If he makes par on 18, he will win the Masters.

Justin Rose birdies 18, sets clubhouse lead at -11

Justin Rose buries the birdie putt on the par-4 18th and gets to 11 under, tying McIlroy for the lead. McIlroy makes par on 16, and he's tied with two holes to go. The last playoff at the Masters was 2017, when ... Rose ... lost in a playoff to Sergio Garcia.

Unbelievable shot from Rory again on 15

Rory has hit some terrible shots and incredible ones. His approach into 15 may have just helped him right the ship. He throws a 7-iron to 5 feet while hooking it around the trees, and voila.

He's unable to convert on the eagle putt, but nevertheless. He makes birdie and goes back one ahead.

Three-way tie for the lead

Justin Rose makes bogey on the 71st hole, and now he, Rory and Ludvig Aberg are tied for the lead.

Buckle up, again. Tighten the straps. Who knows what the next hour holds.

Justin Rose is the solo leader at the Masters

What. Is. Happening. Rory bogeys the par-4 14th and drops to 10 under, one shot behind Justin Rose, who has a par putt upcoming on the 17th.

Huge Rory McIlroy mistake on 13

McIlroy was perfect since his double, but he makes a huge mistake on 13 and dumps his third into the tributary of Rae's Creek. He makes his fourth double bogey of the week, and his three-shot lead is gone after Justin Rose makes birdie on 16.

There's no overstating how bad that shot was from Rory. It could possibly cost him a tournament he had in his pocket.

Rory finds green at 12, makes par

It's starting to feel real. McIlroy makes par at 12 after aiming at the middle of the green and he has a four-shot lead over Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg with six holes to play.

Bogey for Rory, double for Bryson at 11

He shortly had a five-shot lead, but Rory McIlroy somehow avoids his golf ball going into the pond at 11 but is unable to get up and down for par. He's at 13 under with a four-shot lead on Justin Rose, who's on the 15th. Meanwhile, Bryson pulls it into the pond and makes double, dropping to 7 under for the week.

Rory fist pump after another birdie

So much for 2011 bad memories on Sunday. Rory birdies No. 11 and is up four shots over Justin Rose and five over Bryson DeChambeau with eight holes to go. That birdie coming after he dropped his club in the fairway on the approach shot.

Rory birdies 9, turns in 35

What a turnaround for Rory McIlroy. He heads to the back nine with a four-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg after a birdie on the par-4 ninth. Four shots ahead with nine to play. History on the line.

No pressure.

Justin Rose, Ludvig Aberg move 3 behind

Players are stacking up behind Rory. As Bryson throws one in tight on 9, Ludvig Aberg and Justin Rose move to 9 under to tie for second.

No damage on the par 5

No birdies for Rory nor Bryson on the par 5, who both find the fairway bunker off the tee. Rory remains three ahead with 10 holes left.

Rory hits incredible shot through trees

Rory misses the fairway off the tee (he's 1-of-5 so far Sunday) but takes a mighty lash at the ball and nearly holes it, leaving a tricky downhiller for birdie. DeChambeau lays up with an iron and then comes up short in the bunker on his second.

From a fried egg lie, Bryson hits a great bunker shot to a couple feet. Rory somehow leaves the downhill birdie look short but taps in for par. Bryson also gets par. Still, incredible second shot from Rory.

Rory remains 3 ahead of DeChambeau thru 6

Rory misses the green just long on the par 3 but takes putter and hits it to a couple feet. Bryson, on a similar line, hits it just short but has an easy tap-in for par. Rory remains 3 up.

Rory, Bryson make par on 5

The lead remains three after both players make par at 5. Rory missed the fairway right but was able to scramble his way for par. Bryson had a good look at birdie from below the hole but hit it through the break and missed. Two strong par putts.

Bryson makes another bogey, Rory's lead increases

Thing has been an insane start. Bryson misses the fourth green for the fourth time this week, and it results in a bogey. Then Rory pours in a birdie putt, and he has a three-shot lead. Two holes after trailing by one, Rory leads by three with 14 to play.

Two-shot swing propels Rory back in front

Buckle up. It's going to be a rollercoaster. Rory birdies the third, and Bryson three putts for bogey. Back in front by one shot for Rory at 11 under.

Bryson DeChambeau takes lead

Just like that, Bryson DeChambeau leads the Masters alone. Rory McIlroy makes par on the par-5 second, and DeChambeau two putts for birdie and moves to 11 under.

Rory McIlroy opens with double bogey

About as poor of a start as you could've imagined for Rory McIlroy. He doubles the first with a three-putt. Back to 10 under. His third double of the week. DeChambeau knocks in his par putt, and we're tied. Just like that.

Craig Stadler won the 1982 Masters with three double bogeys on the week.

Rory, Bryson hit first tee shots

Rory goes first and finds the fairway bunker. Bryson hits 3-wood and it's a big hook toward the 9th fairway. Advantage no one after one shot.

Rory's chances to win Masters

Starting with a two-shot advantage, every birdie McIlroy makes Sunday will make it harder for the chasers.

Cool Bryson story

Bryson was walking around his AirBnB's neighborhood last night and made some friends.

Bryson DeChambeau: 'Excited for the opportunity'

Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau arrive at the course

CBS's Amanda Balionis interviewed both combatants, DeChambeau first and moments later McIlroy, who said he's keeping himself distracted watching other sports, particularly tennis star Carlos Alcaraz win the Monte Carlo Masters.

"That's all I've been doing and just trying to go through my strategy for the day," he said, "and just trying to show up with the same attitude that I've had the last three days."
