Bermuda Championship leaderboard, highlights: Adam Hadwin fires 65 to take early lead
There are 120 golfers at Port Royal in Southampton, Bermuda, for the 2025 Butterfield Bermuda Championship. It's not quite the Last Chance Saloon for those seeking job security in 2026, but this place is in the neighborhood.
A friendly reminder that only the top 100 players (if not already exempt) in the FedEx Cup Fall series points standings earn a 2026 PGA Tour card, so a strong performance on the island would go a long way.
Here were our live leaderboard updates for Thursday from the 2025 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Play suspended due to darkness
According to the PGA Tour, the first round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship was suspended due to darkness at 5:27 p.m. local time and it will be picked up at 7:30 a.m. local time with 15 players yet to complete the round.
The second round will begin as scheduled at 7 a.m.

We had you covered all day Thursday right here with scores and tee times from Port Royal. The first group went off at 6 a.m. ET (same as Bermuda time).
Kris Ventura holes out for eagle, shoots 68
Former Oklahoma State star Kris Ventura holed out from the fairway on the par-5 17th hole on Thursday, sparking him to a 68 that has him just a few shots off the lead.

"To be honest, I had a bad lie in the rough so I wasn't sure if I was going to kind of like splash it out of there and landing on the green or maybe land it short," he said after. Ended up going for the bump-and-run and caught the lip, went in."
"Obviously a bonus. I would have been happy to walk off of there with a birdie. Yeah, just kind of got rewarded for staying patient and grinding today, because it was definitely difficult."
Adam Hadwin fires 65 to take early lead in Bermuda
On a day where bridies seem to be at a premium, Adam Hadwin made seven of them en route to a 6-under 65 on Thursday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. He went out in bogey-free 32 and got to 4 under with a birdie at the 13th. He stumbled with a bogey at No. 15, but followed it up with back-to-back birdies to cap off a stellar outing on a windy day in the Atlantic. As of 3:20 p.m. ET, Hadwin is the solo leader, two shots ahead of a four-way tie for second at 4 under.
Here's more on Hadwin's surprising day.
Low scores a rarity
As the morning wave finishes its round, there are only eight players who have finished or are on pace to shoot under par. Winds are gusting up to 35 miles per hour and are wreaking havoc on the par-3 eighth, par-3 16th and par-4 15th. The scoring average is nearly 2.5 shots over par thus far.
Defending champ struggles
Last year, Rafael Campos showed up an hour and a half before his tee time before going on to win. This year, he has work to do just to make the weekend. The defending champion opened in 5-over 76, the same score as Sahith Theegala. Campos had two birdies, but five bogeys and a double offset any positive momentum for the Puerto Rican on Thursday.
Alex Smalley ties lead
Just like that, it's a two-way tie at the top of the leaderboard in Bermuda between Ryo Hisatsune and Alex Smalley, who also signed for 67 on Thursday morning and matched Hisatsune with five birdies and one bogey. Coming in, Smalley finished T-4 at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan but missed cuts in his other four starts.
Ryo Hisatsune posts early lead
A stellar round from Japan's Ryo Hisatsune, firing a 4-under 67, to take the early clubhouse lead in Bermuda. Hisatsune, who's 84th in the FedEx Cup standings, recorded five birdies. He was the first player to tee off Thursday morning and is first on the leaderboard.
"Especially today, windy day, so find the fairway and then hitting shots really well. So yeah, I'm happy to making 4 under."
Breezy conditions during the opening round
Being in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, having strong winds nearly every day is no surprise to residents of Bermuda. But to some of the best golfers in the world, it can be a challenge that wreaks havoc if you catch a gust at the wrong time.
During the opening round at Port Royal Golf Course, winds are sustained at 22 miles per hour and gusting to 30. This week is bound to be a windy one with no relief in site for players.
Drew Zielinski hits opening tee shot, finishes slowly
Drew Zielinski of Lee University, who's playing on a historic exemption, is underway in his first round on the PGA Tour. He made three birdies, three pars and three bogeys on his opening nine.
He struggled down the stretch, however, with a double two bogeys in his final four holes to drop to a 74. He can still make the cut as the scores were all high, but he'll have some work to do.
Three weeks ago, Zielinski won the Golfweek Fripp Island to Bermuda Invitational, and in the process became the first Division II golfer to earn an exemption from a college event directly into a PGA Tour event.

Who's playing in the 2025 Butterfield Bermuda Championship?
There are only two players in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking who signed up to play in the Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship. The highest-ranked player in the field at No. 42? That would be Michael Brennan, the 23-year-old product out of Wake Forest, who won the Bank of Utah Championship just two weeks ago in only his third career Tour start.
Other notables include Blades Brown, defending champ Rafael Campos, Eric Cole, Adam Hadwin, Harry Higgs, Matt Kuchar, Francesco Molinari and Sahith Theegala.
What's odd about Michael Brennan's appearance in Bermuda?
It may be the first time that the highest-ranked player in the field also tried — and failed — to Monday qualify into the event. Read the complete backstory from Golfweek's Adam Schupak.
