Cloudy, foggy, damp and cool.

That's probably what comes to mind when you think of weather at the British Open, and that's exactly what players and fans are in for at Royal Portrush this week for the latest rendition of golf's oldest major.

Rain has let up at Royal Portrush

It was coming down pretty hard for a bit at Royal Portrush but the players played on. The skies are still overcast but there's no rain falling now, as the afternoon wave is on the back nine at the British Open.

It's raining again at the British Open

Umbrellas are out, towels are in full effect and players, golfers and caddies alike are thankful for their rain gear.

There's no stop in play as of 1:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. in Scotland) as everyone is muddling through.

Heavy rain arrives at Royal Portrush on Friday at the 2025 British Open Championship

Players who went off in the early groups on Friday enjoyed sunny and pleasant conditions, but it was just before 10:30 a.m. ET when heavy rain began to fall at Royal Portrush during the second round of the 2025 British Open Championship.

Radar indicates this rain could stick around for a while, but it might not be as intense as it was when it first began to fall.

Jason Day says it's the 'craziest' weather

Jason Day commented on the weather at Royal Portrush, and for someone as well-traveled as the Aussie, this was an interesting analysis.

"The weather here is the craziest weather pattern I've ever experienced in my life. There's no consistency to it whatsoever," he said. "You look at the weather, I mean, I'd love to be a weatherman here. You just get it wrong all the time."

Friday weather forecast at Royal Portrush

Widespread showers in the morning become scattered in the afternoon on Friday, but forecasters expect a much lighter wind of 5-10 mph coming from the southwest with a high temperature around 65 degrees.

Saturday weather forecast at Royal Portrush

Much of the same Saturday. Cloudy with off-and-on rain, high temperatures in the mid 60s and winds from the southeast at 5-10 mph.

Sunday weather forecast at Royal Portrush

With the smallest chance of rain all week (40 percent), Sunday might be the most pleasant day. A mix of sun and clouds is expected, but showers could still move in for the closing stretch of the final round. Forecasters are calling for a high temperature in the upper 60s and a northwest wind at 10-15 mph.
