Watch on PGA Tour Live on the ESPN app, Golf Channel, NBC Sports app
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more visually pleasing backdrop in pro golf than the Black Desert Resort for the Bank of Utah Championship. You'd also be hard-pressed to find a slower pace of play.
For the second day in a row, several players were unable to finish before it got dark. A total of 51 players (nearly a third of the field) will have to complete their second round on Saturday morning. Thirty-eight were forced to go out early Friday morning to finish the first round.
But many players were able to complete 36 holes before nightfall, including the solo leader, Michael Brennan, who is 10 under for the tournament after rounds of 67 and 65. He leads by one ahead of a three-way tie for second between Jackson Suber, Justin Lower and Pierceson Coody, who were all able to finish on Friday as well.

Play suspended at Bank of Utah Championship
For the second time in as many days, play was suspended before every golfer could finish his second round. The PGA Tour made the call at 6:47 p.m. local time (8:47 p.m. ET). In the morning, 51 players will go out to complete the second round. Once that happens, a 36-hole cut will be made. At the end of play Friday, the cut line was 1 under. The final group off the tee still has six holes remaining in the second round.
Justin Lower ties the lead in Utah
Justin Lower made eagle on No. 7 and four more birdies to get to 10 under for the tournament, tied for the lead with Michael Brennan. Lower is 5 under through 15 holes on the day as of 8 p.m. ET.
Pierceson Coody goes low at the Bank of Utah Championship
Pierceson Coody turned in the best round of the day so far with a 7-under 64 at Black Desert Resort. He made seven birdies and 11 pars, signing for a clean scorecard and likely entering the weekend inside the top 5. As of 6:40 p.m. ET, he's tied for second at 9 under with Jackson Suber, who shot 67 on Friday.
Michael Brennan fires 65 to take the lead
Rounds of 67 and 65 have Michael Brennan in sole possession of the lead at 10 under as of 6:30 p.m. ET. Brennan has won three times on the PGA Tour Americas this season and is making his second start in a PGA Tour event. He made five birdies to just one bogey in Friday's round, plus an eagle at the par-5 9th.

Matt McCarty will be in the mix for another weekend in Utah
Matt McCarty walked away from Black Desert Resort victorious last year. He could be doing it again Sunday.
The 27-year-old from Scottsdale signed for a 6-under 65 in Friday's second round, which included a 28 on the back nine. He sits at 8 under entering the weekend, safely inside the cut line and just one shot off the lead as of 5:15 p.m. ET.
Jackson Suber fires 67 to take the clubhouse lead
Jackson Suber turned in a round of 4-under 67 on Friday to follow up his bogey-free 66 Thursday and as of 5 p.m. ET, he's the leader in the clubhouse at 9 under. Michael Brennan is also 9 under but has a few holes left in his second round.
"My friend Greyson Porter is on the bag. He has helped out a lot," said Suber after his round Friday. "He played golf at Florida State and is from Tampa as well, so he's just been a good mind to have on the bag and kind of helping me stay in the present and figure out what to do."
Suber, a 26-year-old from Florida, is making his 27th start on the PGA Tour. He has three top-10 finishes to his name but still seeks his first victory.
Cut line moves into red numbers at the Bank of Utah Championship
It remains to be seen whether everyone will finish their second round Friday, or if we'll have to wait until Saturday for the 36-hole cut (the latter seems more probable). But regardless, players will likely need to be in red numbers just to make the weekend, as the cut line moved to 1 under just after 3 p.m. ET.
Michael Brennan, Jackson Suber tie for lead as McCarty stumbles
After going out in 28, Matt McCarty is 2 over through 6 holes on his second nine after starting on the back, with bogeys on Nos. 4 and 6.
That has allowed Michael Brennan and Jackson Suber to move into a tie for first at 8 under, one shot ahead of McCarty and Takumi Kanaya. Brennan has won three times on the PGA Tour Americas this season and is making his second start in a PGA Tour event.
Meanwhile, Jackson Suber went on a tear as he finished up on Friday. He was 1 over through 12 holes before making birdie on four of his next five holes to get to 8 under just after 3 p.m. ET.
Matt McCarty goes on a birdie binge, fires 28
Last year's champion is putting on a show on Friday at Black Desert. He started on the back nine and fired a 28, making seven birdies and two pars, which included a stretch of four straight birdies on Nos. 13-16.
As of 2:25 p.m. ET, he's the leader by two shots ahead of Takumi Kanaya and Michael Brennan, who are tied for second at 7 under.
Defending champion Matt McCarty takes the lead at the Bank of Utah Championship
Something about Black Desert Resort just brings out the best in Matt McCarty.
The 27-year-old from Scottsdale won this event last year and he finds himself right back at the top of the leaderboard again in 2025. After signing for 2-under 69 on Thursday, McCarty got off to a blistering start in Friday's second round with five birdies in his first six holes, including three straight on Nos. 13-15 (he started on the back nine).
As of 12:30 p.m. ET, McCarty is the solo leader at 7 under for the tournament, one shot clear of a four-way tie for second.
Good weather, good views, but slow going
The first round of play is just finally wrapping up at the Bank of Utah Championship at almost 10 a.m. local time. The field of 120 couldn't get around Black Desert Resort with the available sunlight, as the first round was suspended due to darkness a little after 6:47 p.m. local time (8:47 p.m. ET). A total of 38 golfers needed to finish their first rounds. One golfer, Lanto Griffin, withdrew.
On Thursday, several afternoon tee times were moved back 15 minutes due to pace-of-play issues.

Svensson on key to Black Desert: Fairways
Jesper Svensson fired a 6-under 65 on Thursday to get into a tie for the lead at the Bank of Utah Championship, and he's in the afternoon wave on Friday. The key to Svensson's success on Thursday? He kept the ball in play on a tricky course that throws black lava rock formations at players.
"It's definitely one of these golf courses where essentially you could be stuck on the tee box. One bad swing is a re-tee immediately," he said. "It felt good to keep her in the fairway. Yeah, like I said, hit a lot of greens, you're going to have some good looks."
