Who it’s for: Golfers who want a modern-looking, zero-torque mallet that helps control face rotation, improves alignment at address, and encourages a smoother, more repeatable stroke.
What you should know: The Spider ZT Black takes the toe-up, low-torque concept introduced earlier this year and adds a new all-black finish, fresh alignment options, and refined sole shaping to help golfers aim more easily and square the face more consistently.
The Deep Dive: There’s always been a tradeoff in putter design between giving players stability and performance they want while maintaining the looks and feel they prefer. It’s tricky, bit TaylorMade’s Spider franchise has tried to walk that line since 2008, blending different materials, geometry, and alignment technologies, but earlier this season, the company pushed that idea in a new direction with the original Spider ZT putters. These were the first offerings from TaylorMade that drastically reduced torque through a unique shaft entry and toe-up balance. With the Spider ZT Black, TaylorMade is leaning into the zero-torque trend even harder.

The ZT Black keeps the defining qualities of the original Spider ZT intact. The shaft enters the head nearly on top of the center of gravity location, with a 1-degree forward lean that creates a small amount of onset. Balanced in your hands, the toe goes up and when you make your putting stroke, the Spider ZT Black resists twisting. The result, according to TaylorMade, is golfers should be able to leep the face square to their stroke path more easily and deliver the face to the ball squarely more often.
The high-MOI design also boasts an updated sole design. Engineers re-shaped the curvature specifically for this shaft configuration, working to make the putter sit more naturally regardless of ball position or setup tendencies. The result is a mallet that’s less fussy on the ground and less prone to pointing left or right depending on how you position it behind the ball. That should help golfers build a more repeatable start line.

The familiar Pure Roll insert returns, made from Surlyn and aluminum with grooves angled at forty-five degrees to promote early forward roll and a softer, more muted strike.
Along with a black PVD-coating over the stainless steel, the Spider ZT Black features new alignment offerings. Golfers can choose between a single short white line on the topline or a white three-line system milled across the top of the putter. The three-line version, offered exclusively on TaylorMade’s website, frames the golf ball neatly at address and creates a contrast that stands out vividly against the matte black head.
TaylorMade also expands the ZT family with additional lengths and grips. Standard models come in 33, 34 and 35 inches with a SuperStroke Pistol 1.0 grip and a black KBS CT 120 shaft. For players who prefer a heavier model, two counterbalance options (36 and 38 inches) feature longer SuperStroke grips with a graphite KBS GPS shaft.
