Masters 2025 leaderboard live updates: Rose leads with DeChambeau, McIlroy right behind

April 11, 2025Updated April 12, 2025, 2:21 p.m. ET

The second round of the 2025 Masters is now in the books. Patrons with weekend badges and fans at home watching their several screens can now look ahead to the weekend.

(Note: Follow our third-round live updates page here.)

Justin Rose was the first-round leader and now he's the second round leader, sitting at 8 under after scores of 65-71. Bryson DeChambeau (69-68) is a shot back while Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners are tied for third at 6 under.

There are four golfers tied for fifth, including two-time and defending champion Scottie Scheffler.

Get a rundown of the top moments from Friday's action here.

(Editor's note: Golfweek's cut line tracker is here. Who will make the weekend?)

Masters 2025 leaderboard live

Justin Rose is looking to become the sixth wire-to-wire winner at Augusta. The fifth and most-recent player to win the Masters after holding the lead after every round was Jordan Spieth, who, a year after nearly winning at Augusta National, slipped into a green jacket after posting rounds of 64-66-70-70 (270).

What did the cut line come in at?

The cut was made at 2 over. The Masters cut rule is top 50 and ties make the weekend, meaning there are 53 golfers who will head to the weekend. Get more on big names missing the cut here.

How did Justin Rose get to the top spot after two rounds?

As Golfweek's Adam Schupak reports:

The 44-year-old Rose has battled nagging back injuries in recent years and he isn’t getting any younger. It has led him to take extreme measures to keep his body healthy enough to perform at the highest level.

But Rose isn’t just eating a salad instead of a burger and fries. He purchased his own traveling gym, what he termed a “recovery room,” which goes from tournament to tournament and allows him to work out and do cold plunges and the like. It’s here this week for the 89th Masters and it’s no stretch to say that it has played an integral role in his preparation for battling with the young bucks on the PGA Tour.

Bernhard Langer, Fred Couples come up short of weekend

Langer, 67, bogeyed the 18th hole Friday to drop to 3 over, a shot off the projected cutline. Couples, 65, bogeyed 14 and 15 and was at 3 over when he sprayed his tee shot on 18 into the trees. He would bogey the hole and sign for a 4-over 77. The two past Masters champs were hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and make the cut but it appears they'll each come up short of the weekend.

For Langer, this year marks the final one of competition at Augusta National and it was an emotional putt-out and walk off the 18th green.

What did Bryson DeChambeau say about his putting after his round?

DeChambeau, leading the field in driving, has turned around his putting game at this year's Masters. On Friday, DeChambeau one-putted 11 greens and took just 24 putts.

“I really took it to heart to practice my speed control because out here, it's all about speed control, 2-putting from a 40-, 50-foot over a big mound and whatnot,” he said after his second-round 68. “That was a big problem I had last year in the third round was just not starting on the line, and this week I found something to help start on the line a little more consistently for me.”

Scottie Scheffler chips in for birdie on No. 12

Scheffler got the in-round bounce back he needed. After consecutive bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 to open his second nine, Scheffler found himself over the green on Golden Bell, the famed par-12th hole. That's when he made some magic, rolling in a chip for a birdie 2 to get back to 5 under for the week.

Russell Henley posts 68 a day after signing for 79

Henley, who won the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month for the biggest win of his career, opened this week's proceedings with a 79, closing with a double-bogey on 16 and a bogey on 18.

While he bogeyed 18 on Friday for a second straight day, his second-round score was 11 shots better, as he had six birdies on his card. It appears, however that his 18th-hole bogey will provide the one-too-many shots that will keep him from making the cut. Henley is 3 over and the projected cut is 2 over.

Nick Dunlap on track for biggest turnaround in Masters history

Dunlap opened with an 18-over 90 on Thursday, his scorecard littered with seven bogeys and three doubles and a triple.

Through 10 holes on Friday, Dunlap is bogey-free with three birdies. If he shoots 68, he'll set the Masters mark for biggest differential (22 strokes) between the first and second rounds. From the Masters media guide:

Most contrasting starts

(88-67), Craig Wood, 1936 (21 strokes)

(64-82), Mike Donald, 1990 (18 strokes)

(69-86), Sandy Lyle, 2010 (17 strokes)

Social media did poke some fun at Dunlap after his Thursday mishaps. In the end, Dunlap bogeyed his final three holes to shoot a 1-under 71. Still, he was 19 shots better than he was a day earlier.

Brooks Koepka fell apart on No. 18

Brooks Koepka was 1 over standing on the 18th tee and needed a par to make the weekend. He walked off the green with a quadruple-bogey 8 on the scorecard, and he'll miss the cut at the 2025 Masters.

The five-time major champion hit his tee shot left into the trees on 18 and had to take an unplayable lie.

And it got uglier from there. Here are all the gory details.

Scottie Scheffler is making his run

It's been an awkward year for Scottie Scheffler, who has been recovering from a hand injury suffered late in 2024. But Scheffler was clearly working toward getting in top shape for this year's Masters, looking to defend his title.

He's still the betting favorite and here's why, as he's moved to 6 under.

Retribution for Bubba Watson, who made the cut

A year ago, Bubba Watson was inside the cut line on the back nine of his second round, but that's where it went downhill. There was a double bogey at 10. A quadruple bogey at 11. And then another double bogey at 12. From 2 over to 10 over in a heartbeat. From a weekend tee time to a missed cut in a three-hole stretch.

But this year, Watson used an eagle on the 8th hole to rally and finish the opening two rounds at 1 under, which should easily be inside the cut line this time around. That marks the first time he's made the weekend since 2022.

Rory McIlroy is getting hot

After a rough ride down the stretch on Thursday, something he's becoming known for, Rory McIlroy did something on the back nine at Augusta that hasn't been done for a decade.

With his outburst, McIlroy jumped into a tie for fourth place and put himself right back in the thick of things as near the tournament's midpoint.

Has Justin Rose won the Masters?

Justin Rose has never won the Masters. Making his 20th appearance in the tournament, Rose's best finish came in 2017 when he finished solo second behind Sergio Garcia. Rose also finished T-2 in 2015 behind Jordan Spieth.

Has Justin Rose won a major?

Rose's only major win came at the 2013 U.S. Open when he outdueled Phil Mickelson at the East Course of Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania. Rose finished 1 over for the tournament to capture the victory.

He also won golf's return to the Olympic Games, bringing home the gold medal from Rio in 2016.

McCarty finishes at 5 under

Matt McCarty got to 6 under but gave a stroke back on the final hole of the day to nestle in at 5 under after 36.

Usually, you don't want to advertise the term Butter Fingers if you're a pro athlete. McCarty has to see it every time he chips. The phrase is stamped onto his 50-degree wedge as a bit of an inside joke with his caddie.

Per PGATour.com:

“I got ‘Butter Fingers’ stamped on my 50-degree,” McCarty explains. “I dropped my club on the ball, got a shot penalty in a Korn Ferry event in Sarasota this summer, so my caddie [Devrath Das] thought it’d be funny to put ‘Butter Fingers’ on it, so that’s where we’re at…we haven’t dropped it since, I guess that’s good mojo.”

As always: it's not weird if it works. And everything seems to be working for McCarty as he heads into the weekend.

Another member named Manning at Augusta

In attendance for Friday's second round was newly minted Augusta National member Eli Manning, who sported a green jacket with white Nikes.

Manning, who arrived in Augusta, Georgia, yesterday and leaves Sunday, stood along the clubhouse rope and greeted patrons.

This marks Eli's first Masters as a member. Older brother, Peyton, was invited to join Augusta National in 2016. Peyton was previously seen with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Odds: Who will lead at the end of the second round?

What are oddsmakers saying about who will be at the top of the leaderboard in the clubhouse after Friday? How about who will put on that signature green jacket come late Sunday afternoon? Here's what to know:Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Friday, April 11 at 12:35 p.m. ET

Justin Rose (-150)

Bryson DeChambeau (+333)

Scottie Scheffler (+600)

Corey Conners (+1600)

Sungjae Im (+2800)

Follow Bryson's live updates

Bryson DeChambeau, the reigning U.S. Open champion, is an early mover in the second round of the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.

DeChambeau moved into second place behind Justin Rose at midday, thanks to shooting 3-under through his first eight holes of the second round. He holed out from the bunker for birdie in one of the tournament's best shots yet.

Our friends at the Palm Beach Post have put together a live tracker to follow Bryson.

Ever steal anything from Augusta National?

As part of our Masters Surveys, we asked players if they have ever taken anything from Augusta National. There are plenty of great answers, but we especially like the one from Xander Schauffele:

"I wouldn’t call it stealing but I did ask can I take home a shoehorn? The locker room attendant said absolutely, don’t worry about it. He winked at me and I took that as a green light," he said.

Here are all the answers.

Matt McCarty is making a charge

Matt McCarty, making his debut at the Masters, has moved up the leaderboard and is now tied for third after making a birdie on No. 12 and followed it up with a birdie on No. 13. This marks his sixth birdie in the second round.

Glover sinks long putt

It's been a rough go for Lucas Glover, but the Clemson product had a moment to remember on Friday at the 8th hole when he drained this incredible putt. Glover is still outside looking in, in terms of the cutline.

Bryson is charging

The 2024 U.S. Open champion is making a move. He's 3 under through 5 and now two back of Justin Rose. He birdied the fifth after hitting his approach to 8 feet. The fifth is the most difficult hole on the course on Friday, and Bryson made it look easy.

Bryson holes out from bunker

Is it his week? Too early to say, and Justin Rose is playing incredible, but DeChambeau gets out of jail in the left bunker on 4, holing out for eagle. He moves to 2 under for the round and 5 under for the tournament, tied for second with Aberg.

Justin Rose on cruise control

The Englishman gets his second birdie, coming at the eighth. He is 5 under on the par 5s this week and moves to 8 under for the tournament, three in front of 2024 runner-up Ludvig Aberg.

Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy get early birdies

Good starts for both Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau, who birdie the par-5 second. Rory did it after his tee shot ended up in a terrible position, too. Bryson moved to 4 under, Rory to 1 under.

Rose make second bogey of week

Hitting it into the fairway bunker at No. 5 is almost a guaranteed bogey, and that's the case for Justin Rose. He can't make the 15 footer for par, and he drops his second shot of the week and first of the second round. Back to 7 under and even par on Friday.

Stellar par save for Justin Rose

A poor tee shot on the par-3 fourth hole left Rosie a 60-yard shot for his second, but he nipped a beautiful spinner that went a couple feet past the hole. He poured in the par putt, with the flat stick staying hot, and he has five putts in his first four holes and is 1 under on the day.

First birdie of the day for Justin Rose

After his sunscreen episode in the fairway, Justin Rose hits a beauty from the greenside bunker and buries the putt for his first birdie. He gets back at 8 under and increases his lead to four shots.

Interesting screenshot...

Justin Rose had a great up-and-down for par at 1, and after his tee shot on 2, he put on sunscreen while strolling down the hill at the par 5. He still had some left on his hands, so what did he do before hitting his second shot? The picture speaks for itself.
