20-for-17 playoff coming in morning
A big playoff is coming in the morning. It’ll be 20 players battling for 17 spots on the Ocean Course. The rotation will be 1-2-3 and repeating until the bracket is complete.
Projected cut moves back to 3 over
Bad news for the people at 4 over. It's looking like the playoff for the final match-play spots will be at 3 over and not 4. The projected cut shifts again with about an hour left of play.
Preston Stout wins medalist honors
It's not officially official, yet, but Preston Stout is going to be the No. 1 seed in match play beginning Wednesday after his stellar 65 on Tuesday.
Cut line update
The cut line sits at 3 over as it stands, but it’s trending closer and closer to moving to 4 over.
Logan Reilly makes turn 3 off lead
Logan Reilly, an incoming freshman at Auburn, is 2 under in his first nine holes at the Lake Course on Tuesday afternoon, and he has moved to 5 under for the tournament and 5 under overall, three shots behind Preston Stout.
Cut line update
The cut is looking more and more as if it's going to come at 3 over par, as only 64 players are at 2 over or better with the afternoon wave playing more difficult than the morning. If that's the case, 2 over and better would be i match play while those at 3 over would be in a playoff, which would start Wednesday morning on Nos. 1-3 on the Ocean Course repeating until the bracket is set.
Preston Stout takes outright lead
The winner of the Northeast Amateur, Preston Stout has had a strong summer, and now he can add another bullet point to his resume. He shoots 5-under 65 on the Lake Course and is two ahead of Tommy Morrison in the race for medalist honors. The afternoon rounds are out on the course now, so someone could possibly match, but he's likely going to be the top seed in match play.
Miles Russell shoots 66
The top-ranked junior in the world has set the clubhouse lead at 4 under. Miles Russell shoots 4-under 66 on the Ocean Course in the second round and has positioned himself to get a top seed heading into match play.
Billy Davis, Williams Jennings tie lead
There are a couple players who have jumped into a tie for the lead with Tommy Morrison: Billy Davis and William Jennings. Davis, the twin brother of 2022 ANWA champ Anna Davis, is 3 under on his round and 4 under overall. Jennings is 4 under at the turn and 4 under overall.
Top-ranked junior making a move
Miles Russell, who still has an outside shot at making the U.S. Walker Cup team, was 1 over thru 3 holes in the second round but proceeded to birdie four of his next six holes and move to T-3 and two behind Tommy Morrison.
Ryan Voois going low early
Ryan Voois was the first player to hit a tee shot on the ninth hole Tuesday, the starting hole for the back nine at Olympic Club's Lake Course since the 10th tee is a far distance from the clubhouse, but the difference in starting hole was a spark for the rising senior at Illinois. He has four birdies in his first eight holes and has moved to 3 under for the tournament and only one shot off the lead.
First round co-leader gets underway
Tommy Morrison, who's still working to punch his ticket to the U.S. Walker Cup team, gets underway in the second round with captain Nathan Smith watching.
U.S. Amateur cut line watch
As play begins Tuesday, the cut line sits at 2 over, but there are 101 players at or above that number. It's more likely than not the cut line sits at 3 or 4 over after Tuesday's second round, but only time will tell how the line will move.
