Rickie Fowler earns spot in 2025 Open Championship after first top-10 of season at Memorial
Rickie Fowler had his best finish of the year Sunday at the Memorial Tournament, and it came with major benefits.
Fowler tied for seventh at the 2025 Memorial Tournament, his first top-10 finish of 2025, and it came at a good time. Fowler earned a spot in the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush thanks to his finish, as the highest finisher in the Memorial field not otherwise exempt into the final major championship of the year earned a spot in next month's battle for the Claret Jug.
"We're heading the right way," Fowler said. "This week still could have been a lot better, but definite positive is going over to Portrush. That's one I've wanted on the schedule. I had a great time when we were there the last and had a decent showing as well. So links golf's my favorite, Portrush is a great spot, so excited for that opportunity."
Fowler tied with Brandt Snedeker, finishing at 1-under 287 for the week, but Fowler earned the spot at Royal Portrush because he was ranked higher in the Official World Golf Ranking coming into the week.

Three more spots will be available next week at the RBC Canadian Open, the last event before the third major championship of the year, the U.S. Open.
Fowler isn't in the field for the USGA's biggest championship, but he's one of the notables set to tee it up Monday in final qualifying, which is taking place at 10 sites across the country.
