Juli Inkster finishes second at U.S. Senior Women's Open, grandson Jack steals show
Beth Ann NicholsJuli Inkster, one of the most decorated moms to ever play the LPGA, is relishing her newest role: grandma.
The LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer finished runner-up at the 7th U.S. Senior Women's Open and within seconds had grandson Jack in her arms. She then walked over to visit her granddaughter, Rowan.
"Everybody says being a grandparent is the best," said 65-year-old Inkster while holding Jack behind the mic in the flash area, "but it is actually the best."
Inkster, who missed the cut by a single stroke last week on the LPGA, coming oh-so-close to breaking a record held at JoAnne Carner, was one of only two players who finished under par at San Diego Country Club. The seven-time major winner closed with a 71 to finish at 1-under for the tournament, six back of winner Becky Morgan. This marks the third time Inkster has finished runner-up in the championship.
"I played good today," said Inkster. "I made a couple boo-boos. Just sloppy sometimes. But I'm really happy with the way I played. I'm really happy with my finish. It wasn't easy out there, but I hung in there, made some good putts, and I felt good."
