The Deep Dive: When Callaway unveiled the first Apex Utility Wood in 2021, it offered something different: the ball speed and forgiveness of a fairway wood in a more compact, hybrid-sized profile. Built with a forged maraging steel face, Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Bars, and internal tungsten weighting, it quickly became a Tour favorite.
The 2023 Apex UW refined that formula, introducing a C300 maraging steel face cup, Batwing stiffening structure, and a Cutwave Pro Sole to improve turf interaction.

Now, the Apex UW (2025) advances the category again, adding a triaxial carbon crown saves weight up top and allows engineers to refine launch and spin characteristics while increasing forgiveness. Although it can certainly be used off the tee, most Apex UW shots will come from the fairway, so Callaway gave this club a large internal tungsten piece that is suspended in the front of the head. Weighing 41 grams, Callaway refers to it as a Speed Wave and it helps to preserve ball speed and create improved launch conditions on thin shots and balls struck below the center of the face.
Callaway has also integrated a Step Sole design, which helps the club move through turf with less drag, keeping swing speed through impact and promoting more consistent contact.
The look remains Tour-inspired: compact, square at address, and neutral in its setup. Offered in lofts of 17, 19, 21, and 23 degrees, the Apex UW is built to fill the gap between a player’s longest iron and highest-lofted fairway wood.

In Callaway’s 2025 lineup, the UW sits squarely in the middle of the flight spectrum. It launches higher than the updated Apex UT driving iron but offers a more penetrating, neutral trajectory than the updated, higher-flying Apex Ti Super Hybrid. That versatility makes it the most balanced option in the top of the bag.
From its debut in 2021, through the refinements of 2023, and now in its most advanced form in 2025, the Apex UW has held onto its reputation as a Tour-validated, go-to option for players seeking both distance and control.
