- The show was originally described as centering on a pro golfer who becomes the face of a controversial new league.
It appears the Godfather and Frank the Tank are reuniting, but this time on a golf course.
According to reports, Luke Wilson has been added to the cast of the new Netflix series, which features Will Ferrell as a pro golfer.
A story at Variety.com has Wilson playing the chief rival to Ferrell:
Exact plot details are being under wraps, aside from the fact that Ferrell will play a fictional golf legend. Wilson is set to play “a pro golfer who rivals Will Ferrell’s character, having beaten him for the tour championship twice,” per the official character description.
Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the golf series, which will be Ferrell’s first TV starring role. Ferrell executive produces along with Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue are executive producers for T-Street. Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest will serve as executive producers.
Originally unveiled in 2023, the series was explained as revolving around a professional golfer who becomes the face of a controversial new league competing with the PGA Tour, which sounded a lot like PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf.

Ferrell, who broke on the scene on Saturday Night Live, has primarily made movies, with sports-themed hits such as Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro.
Since his days on SNL, Ferrell's only significant TV role was on the Apple TV+ streaming service in a show called The Shrink Next Door.
His new scripted golf comedy does not yet have a name. Aside from “Old School,” the two also paired up in “The Wendell Baker Story,” and Wilson made cameos in “Anchorman” and “Blades of Glory,” which both starred Ferrell.
In real life, Ferrell has been active in the Cancer For Colleges Classy Golf Classic, a charity which awards college scholarships to children fighting cancer. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the charity was founded by Ferrell’s USC fraternity brother Craig Pollard. In 2022, a Florida man paid $57,000 to play with Ferrell in the charity event.
