  • Wild Dunes Resort in South Carolina invested over $8 million to upgrade its two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses.
  • Renovations included rebuilding and resurfacing all greens on both the Links and Harbor courses.
  • The 18th hole of the Links Course was redesigned from a par 5 to a par 3 due to coastal erosion.
  • The Harbor Course is scheduled to reopen to the public on October 26.

Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, South Carolina, announced plans to invest more than $8 million to upgrade both its Tom Fazio-designed golf layouts, the Links and Harbor courses, back in 2023.

The work on the courses near Charleston has included rebuilding and resurfacing all the greens, among other efforts. The course renovations followed in the wake of more than $150 million in other resort renovations that included the addition of the 153-room Sweetgrass Inn.

One of the major points of the course restoration was changes to the 18th hole of the Links Course, which was shortened from its original design as a par 5 to a par 3 because of coastal erosion issues in 2015.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the continued growth and investment in the resort,” Terri Haack, Wild Dunes Resort’s managing director, said in a media release when the projects were announced. “After years of continued improvements to the property with our guests and members in mind, enhancing our overall golf product was the natural next step. We’re looking forward to delivering this elevated offering through both the Harbor Course – Tom Fazio’s original South Carolina gem – along with the Links Course, creating an exceptional coastal championship golf experience.”

The good news is finally here: The Harbor Course will reopen on Oct. 26, although the project ended up costing around $9.5 million. Here's a look at the course as it prepares for play.

(Editor's note: A correction was made to note that the 18th hole change was made in 2015.)
